Hanford ARC
Hanford Applied Restoration & Conservation is a licensed general engineering and landscape contractor working in central and northern California. The company specializes in wetland mitigation and restoration, stream construction, soil bioengineering, revegetation, park construction and erosion control. I designed and built this new web site, which is extensive and content-rich and features a nifty DHTML image viewer.
Gabeler Battocchi Griggs & Powell, PLLC
Big city lawyers with a small town approachability. Attorneys practice primarily in the areas of family law, estate planning, civil litigation, and business and contracts law. I designed and constructed the web site, helped write and edit content, took photos, and now manage search engine positioning.
Society
for the Social Studies of Science
This scientific society needed a totally redesigned web site
with a modern graphic design and restructured navigation. I produced
all components of this project. Editorial contributors use
an inexpensive content management system to keep the site up
to date.
Eric Waters, Guitarist
For this guitar player and teacher extraordinaire I provided a simple, elegant site to support his personal marketing efforts.
NPKtools
A small software and consulting company specializing in HR compensation analysis. I did not design their compensation analysis web site, but provide ongoing consulting for search engine optimization, pay-per-click campaign management, email marketing, copy writing, and marketing strategy.
Alley
Cat Allies
Alley
Cat Allies produces a wealth of information, products, and services
for people who are interested in the welfare of feral cats. They
needed a sizable web site with high aesthetic standards that
they could maintain themselves. With their active involvement,
I produced all the components of this
site, from information architecture to graphic design.
Globalization
of Science
Small for now, this is "Project Central" for a section of the World Summit on
the Information Society. Contains a subsite on an academic project studying the
impact of the Internet on scientific collaboration in the Third World.
The
Coffee Potter
Here is a gallery site I designed for my brother, who is an artist in clay. The
site uses DHTML to enable the thumbnail navigation and the enlargements to
exist on the same page, making it faster and much more comfortable to view
all the images.
Zetek,
maker of the OvaCue
A small public company with a proprietary ovulation prediction technology,
Zetek needed comprehensive web marketing services to help position them for
success. Their product is sold only through the web, so capturing qualified
traffic is paramount. My contribution to this ongoing effort has included web
design, content development, search engine optimization, and press releases.
Greco & Greco
This Northern Virginia law firm has a distinguished practice in securities
arbitration and litigation. They needed a web site that would reflect the
stature of a nationwide practice and generate new business. Ongoing serch
engine optimization work has led to top-ten rankings on many important
keywords. I also manage their pay-per-click campaign.
RPI
Consultants
RPI is a growing business solutions provider based in Baltimore. I have provided
a wide range of services for them in the past two years, including web site
design, brochures, direct mail pieces, magazine ads, and even a billboard! Drinking Water Research Foundation
A
simple, attractive site I designed for the research arm of a trade
association. Features include a fading news scroller and password
security.
Kentucky
Fried Basketball Association
Fantasy
basketball will never be the same now that KFBA.net has
launched. These guys have the ideas and the drive needed
to make a startup succeed. I did not design their web
site, however I have consulted on marketing and search
engine placement and designed a series of magazine
ads (1.4Mb).
Jennifer's
Fund
A
very inexpensive site created to support the work of a family
foundation that serves teenage women in Vermont.
The
Bandido
This is a very low-budget site advertising a sailboat
for sale.
The
National Center for Cultural Competence
This public education center at Georgetown University required a
more up-to-date and functional web site. I led the content side
of the project for lead contractor GMR, which included facilitating
content reorganization decisions around a new information architecture.
I also built the html. Graphic design is by Bill Pragluski.
Animark
This is a simple small business site offering technology for, um,
animal husbandry. The main design goals were to be accessible and
comfortable for ranchers and farmers and to load quickly on slow
rural connections.
OnCourse
I wrote a successful $1 million National Science Foundation
grant proposal and edited the business plan for this new organization,
a consortium of public television organizations, universities,
and other non-profit educational institutions. OnCourse seeks
to do for the digital age what educational television did
for the television age.
Government
Micro Resources, Inc.
Since
the Fall of 2001 I have done extensive consulting for this
government contractor, writing reports and proposals and doing
web site analysis, requirements analysis, etc., primarily on
projects for the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Your
Soul at Work
Did the graphic design and wrote the content for this direct marketing
web site promoting a career planning book. Now managing search engine
positioning campaign. Also ghostwriting spinoff articles.
Larson
Slade Associates
Did all the graphic design and site design for this management consulting
firm. Also provided editing and marketing services, including search
engine positioning.
Web
Data Solutions
Wrote all content and planned and implemented site design (not including
graphic design). Note especially the press releases. Also wrote
many proposals, marketing materials, etc. for Web Data Solutions.
Achieved top ranking on Google.
Thinking
Sun
Alas, Thinking Sun is no more, but hey, not for the lack of a nice
web site. The site is now password protected, but I've reproduced
the home page and one internal page here. I designed the site, including
a new look and feel based on pre-existing branding elements (i.e.
colors and logo). I also had a large role in developing and refining
the marketing message.
Home page. Note, the
links on this page are deactivated.
Screen shot of an internal
page.
Microsoft
Here you can read a case study I wrote for Web Data Solutions that
Microsoft picked up for distribution to the media and to its sales
staff.
Washington
Post
The Post ran a true-life humor piece in their Sunday Style
section. (View online version.)
Environmental
Education articles
While
I was Executive Director of Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment,
I published several articles promoting educational use and stewardship
of schoolyards, some were published by educational journals such as School
Planning & Management and The Science Teacher.
