Our challenge was to convey a technology laden proposal in a compelling manner so that non-technical reviewers could understand the educational value we would provide. The $1 million we received from the U.S. Department of Labor is the best evidence of Steve meeting, and surpassing, that challenge.

Although he has done a variety of things for us, Steve's greatest application has been web-related technical writing. Over the years he has written many complex proposals, requirements analysis documents, and marketing brochures.

Technical and proposal writing

Proposals and reports need to take care of business first. They need to be clear and well organized, the writing focused on reducing the effort required by the reader to find the information they need. At the same time, formal documents needn’t be tedious or obscure. Well crafted language can add perceived value to a proposal and help it stand out in a crowd.

I wrote a series of government grant proposals for Kidz Online.

I wrote a successful $1 million grant proposal for this public broadcasting educational project. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to keep them afloat. Also edited the business plan.
